Why Were Two People Hospitalized After Drinking a Cocktail at Gordon Ramsay's Vegas Restaurant?

A flaming drink is now off the menu at Gordon Ramsay's Las Vegas restaurant, Hell's Kitchen.

Two customers at Gordon Ramsay's Las Vegas restaurant Hell's Kitchen were hospitalized for undisclosed injuries after drinking cocktails there on August 2. Officials at Caesars Palace, the resort in which Hell's Kitchen is located, released a statement to Associated Press that said, "The particular type of specialty drink served at Hell’s Kitchen is served at the finest restaurants worldwide without incident. But, out of an abundance of caution, Hell’s Kitchen has removed the drink item at issue from the menu."

The statement didn't reveal the drink, but The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported that it is the Rum Donkey, made of Cruzan Single Barrel Rum, the sweet syrup called falernum, brown sugar, ginger beer, and passion fruit that's set alight.

An NBC Bay Area report did not specify the injuries; The Review-Journal described them as burns.

The Vegas location is Ramsay's newest restaurant.

Ramsay has been in the news lately following the announcement of his next television venture: National Geographic, which is airing his upcoming travel series Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted, responded to criticism that the new show was too similar to the late Anthony Bourdain's work.

"We are disappointed that the announcement of our upcoming series with Gordon Ramsay was taken out of context," reps for the network said in a statement. "With National Geographic’s storied history of exploration, our plan with this series is to celebrate and learn about local cultures around the world. In partnering with Ramsay — a well-known adventure enthusiast — we are going to fully immerse viewers and give them a glimpse into surprising and unexpected cultures and local flavors. We have not gone into production on the series yet, so this perspective is premature. We’re looking forward to working with Ramsay, who’s been making food and travel documentaries for well over a decade, to share the series when it premieres sometime next year.”
